I was here

A simply intriguing novel filled with mystery, romance, tragedy, and emotion, I Was Here is one of Gayle Forman’s best. She plays with the relationship between life and death, as she does in some of her other books. It gets the reader thinking about what is happening in the character’s heads as they go through the loss of the ones they love. I Was Here is about a girl named Cody, who’s best friend, Meg has just drank a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner in a hotel room, alone. When Cody has to travel to Meg’s college to gather her things for her parents, she learns many things about her best friend that she didn’t previously know. She meets Meg’s roommates, learns about Meg’s love-life, finds some interesting things on Meg’s old laptop, and all of this discovering makes Cody wonder more and more about her best friend’s death. The readers wonder and imagine what it would be like if someone we loved were to take their own life. Cody thought she knew everything about Meg, but throughout the book, she realizes that she didn’t know her at all. I Was Here is an interesting, mysterious, and well-written novel, and I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates good writing and a creative story.
